Enhanced Biomimetics Providing the “Builders” and “Architects” of the Skin

NeoGenesis has built a new stem cell-based platform technology that has been proven in the skin and hair care marketplace. Our platform technology, called S²RM® exosome technology, is different from other stem cell technologies and is a more efficacious means for treatment than common skin care products, or other stem cell based products. Here’s why:  Instead of cells, we use the molecules released from stem cells. Given that the power of stem cell therapeutics is largely because of molecules stem cells release (Maguire, 2013), we optimize the cells and their release of molecules in the laboratory, and then apply those optimized molecules directly into the patient (Maguire, 2016). In this manner, we know that the complete set of molecules is administered to the patient in space and in time. Further, the molecules are packaged into exosomes (Maguire, 2016B), so that protection, perfusion, and delivery of the molecules is accomplished in a synergistic fashion – i.e. all the molecule types are delivered at the same time and in the same space, yielding synergistic, systems-level effects (Maguire, 2014).

Further, we learn lessons from mother nature. Stem cell maintenance and healing of our tissues uses the molecules from multiple stem cell types – each cell type secreting its own special pool of molecules that act synergistically with other pools of molecules from other stem cell types. This is the basis of S²RM® – stem cell released molecules (SRM) coming from two or more cell types, hence S²RM®. However, the S²RM® is not a simple biomimetic. We go one step beyond mother nature for a particular indication, providing an “enhanced biomimetic.”

Mother nature has to compromise, S²RM® does not. Through evolution of the species and development of the individual, mother nature must cobble together various mechanisms to maintain and heal our bodies.  While an ingenious and effective system results from the “human cobblestone,” the system is nonetheless a compromise for dealing with the many insults that may occur to the body, but it is not optimized for any one indication that may arise, including human aging itself. As an example, S²RM® technology for wound healing derives from different cell types, and from different developmental stages, to bring forth an uncompromised solution to adult wound healing without scarring. Simplifying the S²RM® technology into a conceptual dichotomy, we stimulate fibroblast stem cells in such a manner that they secrete small collagen building blocks that pack tightly and orderly unlike that found in older adults, and other adult stem cells that supply the instruction set to reform the adult layers of the skin. Thus, one type of stem cell is like a builder, secreting the “building blocks” to make the skin, and the other type of stem cell is like an architect, secreting the instruction set of molecules to “tell” the builders how to lay the blocks. In this manner, the S²RM® technology for wound healing is specific to this need, and without compromise – where mother nature leaves a scar, S²RM® doesn’t. This is “enhanced biomimetic” S²RM® technology.
